≪Summary≫
Barely any time has passed since the fierce battle with the mononoke Karakasa when the Medicine Seller (voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya) once again appears at the imperial harem.
The previous incident has left lasting changes on the imperial harem. Utayama, who once held the highest position, has been succeeded by Botan Otomo (Haruka Tomatsu), the daughter of a prestigious family. Known for her strong sense of discipline and balance, Botan now rules the imperial harem with a firm hand.
As a result, tensions begin to rise between her and Fuki (Yoko Hikasa), Emperor Tenshi's (Miyu Irino) favorite lady-in-waiting, a commoner who rose through the ranks. The rift between them only continues to grow.
Emperor Tenshi's wife, Sachiko (Atsumi Tanezaki), has given birth—and just as selections for a guardian for the newborn begins, a major incident occurs that turns Fuki's life upside down.
Fuki is pregnant with an "unwanted child," a fact that Elderly Otomo (Kenyu Horiuchi), a powerful councilor, seizes upon as fuel for his own schemes. As the men's ambitions close in, their tangled motives ignite a plan dubbed "Operation Firefighting"...
At the same time, a bizarre string of incidents unfolds: people are suddenly bursting into flames, their bodies reduced to charcoal.
Suspecting the hand of mononoke behind the strange events, the Medicine Seller steps in to uncover the truth. But these elusive beings are acting in a pack, making it nearly impossible to pin them down.
The source of the chaos is revealed to be the children of a Fire Rat. They aren't simply attacking at random—they're searching for their mother. But finding the Fire Rat's mother proves to be an impossible task. Why do the Fire Rats target those who harm babies? What tragedy will unfold from their relentless devotion—so fierce, it burns even themselves?
To solve the mystery, the Medicine Seller must uncover the three elements required to slay a mononoke—its Form, Truth, and Reason—and step into the shadows lurking deep within the imperial harem.
